The third residential meeting of the Sant'Anna School's ‘Me.Mo. (Merit and Social Mobility)’ project kicks off: three days of university orientation in Pisa for students from all over Italy, for a more informed university choice
Involving 140 students, who are about to start the fifth year of secondary school, with excellent scholastic results, coming from fragile socio-economic backgrounds
From Tuesday 3 to Thursday 5 September, the Sant'Anna School becomes the beating heart of the university future for 140 students from all over Italy, who are about to start their fifth year of secondary school, to take part in the third and last residential event of the "Me.Mo. (Merit and Social Mobility)" orientation project. This unique orientation programme is aimed at students with excellent scholastic results, from fragile socio-economic backgrounds, with the goal of encouraging a more aware and inclusive university choice .
Opportunity to build the future. The residential meeting in Pisa is one of the last stages of a journey that has seen the participants engaged in an intense programme of orientation and personal growth. The orientation project ‘Me.Mo. (Merit and Social Mobility) aims to provide young people with the necessary tools to make an informed university choice, promoting the right to study as a tool for social mobility and personal fulfilment.
Pathway supported by PNRR funds and philanthropic foundations. The Me.Mo. project benefited from the financial support of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), the Il Talento all'Opera Foundation and the Bernardo Villa Gicaber Foundation, entities that share a commitment to social inclusion and equal access to higher education. Their support has made possible a targeted tutoring of students throughout the school year, with local meetings and mentoring activities, culminating in the residential experience in Pisa.
A major event for university training and inclusion. During the three days of this residential meeting, participants have the opportunity to get acquainted with the university environment of the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna, interacting with teachers, researchers, tutors and leading figures from the academic and professional fields. Among the special guests are Marcella Gargano, Director General of Higher Education Institutions of the Ministry of University and Research, and Michele Stangarone, President Emeritus of Nuovo Pignone. With Marcella Gargano and Michele Sgangarone, students have the opportunity to discuss crucial issues such as university education,inclusion and the right to study, offering young participants an in-depth overview of the challenges and opportunities that await them. Michele Sgangarone's speech is scheduled for Tuesday 3 September at 3.15 p.m., after the introductory greeting by Rector Sabina Nuti, and that of Marcella Gargano on Wednesday 4 September at 11.20 a.m.
Over the course of the three days, participants will also meet Paolo Rametta (Tuesday 3 September at 6.20 p.m.), an alumnus of the Sant'Anna School, and take part in workshops and moments of interchange with female researchers, lecturers, offering them a valuable opportunity for comparison and inspiration. Also on the programme is a visit to the Ego-Virgo European Gravitational Observatory in Cascina (Pisa) in the afternoon of Wednesday 4 September, for a contact with the world of research. The programme for the morning of Thursday 5 September includes a meeting with students of the Sant'Anna School, to present the admission competition, and with representatives of the CISIA consortium, to learn about the TOLC test, valid as a pre-selection for the admission competition.
